One of the best ways I ever heard thai massage referenced was to call it “assisted yoga.”
Truly it is much more than that though. Traditional Thai massage is a wonderful healing modality, the chiropractic care in Thailand as a matter of fact. Thai massage is known to have been developed by Jivaka Kumar Bhaccha, Buddha’s physician, more than 2,500 years ago in India. It eventually found itself in Thailand, where Ayurvedic healing modalities eventually melded with traditional Chinese medicine.
Thai massage integrates acupressure and deep tissue techniques with different combinations of stretching and poses for the client. These stretches unlock deep tension and tightness and help to improve or build upon the flexibility of the client. The extra bonus is the energy work that is woven within Thai massage, creating an ultimate experience of healing and relaxation for the mind, body and soul complete.
Thai massage is great for anyone, it is not limited to people that are really flexible or athletic. While it is great for the latter, many people appreciate Thai massage for helping them in those areas when they are maybe not as limber or active as they would like to be…let Thai do some of that work for you!
This style of massage is done on the floor on a memory foam pad. The client is fully clothed in something comfortable that is easy to stretch in and I fully recommend a 90 minute session, if not 2 hours. People that think this is too long, always say that they understand why the extra time outside of the basic hour once they have had their first one.
